News About Clearwire is Closer to T-Mobile
As we all know, T-mobile is seriously devoting itself to expand its 4G HSPA+ network. In order to make it happen, T-mobile requires extra spectrum that is currently under the possession of Clearwire. Some sources said it is only Deutsche Telekom, the parent company of T-Mobile that could facilitate T-mobile to achieve its great dream by the end of this quarter. Deutsche Telekom is interested with the T-mobile’s plan to buy Clearwire whose share now is mostly owned by Sprint. However, that’s not the only way-out for T-mo. It’s still got another option that is selling one of its towers to support its finance to win Clearwire in the federal auction.
Another interesting fact is that Sprint itself is not interested to own Clearwire wholly. The company even hopes that T-mobile will want to cooperate with them to share the cost of Clearwire’s spectrum. You can see it through Sprint’s refusal to participate in the Clearwire’s debt sale last December. Back then, Clearwire undoubtedly had problems with its finance after its aggressive 4G roll out. It, therefore, announced a $1.1 billion debt sale.
As Verizon and AT&T is competing to win high end market with their own high class iPhone, T-mobile and Sprint cannot see a chance to participate in the fight. This is due to the absence of Apple fantastic devices in their carried device list. So we’ve got two possibilities here. First, T-mobile and Sprint will cooperate to break Verizon and AT&T domination over the high class customers. And second, both T-mobile and Sprint will have their own fight to win the lower class market. We’ll see it by the end of the quarter.
